Music in Education

Imagine being suppressed and confined, trapped in a small hole in the wall with no hope for a brighter future, no singing, no laughing, and no music. Now, visualize this terrible place but try to see yourself being a mere five years old. At such a young age interaction and hands on learning are essential. Elementary school without music is like a jazz album without a trumpet, you will never get the full experience. Fortunately enough, I never had to experience such a dull and solemn environment.
My kindergarten music instructor Mrs. Kirkpatrick was the epitome of an exceptional teacher. She influenced my love for music in such a way that allows me to influence others in the subjects that I love. The musical activities she incorporated into her lesson plan allowed us to learn team building strategies as well as communication with peers. The creativity that was accomplished in her music theatre was eventually transferred into the classroom where the core subjects were taught.
